Training and Placement Services (TAPS) is an
independently funded program of the Epilepsy Foundation of East
Tennessee aimed at assisting disabled individuals in obtaining
employment. Not all clients of TAPS have epilepsy, nor is having
epilepsy an eligibility requirement for services. TAPS is a service
provider for the State of Tennessee's Vocational Rehabilitation
Services.
The mission of TAPS is to increase the employment rate
of persons with physical, mental or emotional disabilities by providing
support services and training. Specifically, TAPS assists disabled
persons in getting and keeping appropriate, full-time, non-subsidized
employment. Since 1988 TAPS has experienced a great deal of success in
providing innovative and effective placement services to its clients.

Today's job market is competitive, and the hiring
process can be time consuming and costly for employers. TAPS can help
create a more positive experience by:
• Saving employers time and money on
advertisements and classified ads
• Carefully screening applicants to meet the
needs of individual employers
• Finding motivated, dependable employees who
want to work
• Providing personalized attention to both the
needs of the employer and to the skills and abilities of the job seeker
• Information about tax credits for employers to
reward successful placements
Many employers are unaware of the fact that individuals
with disabilities are hardworking, productive employees. Through hiring
job seekers from the Training and Placement Services, companies have
increased production, raised morale and gained valuable diversity in the
workplace. There is no fee for TAPS services or placements, and staff is
available to provide follow-ups or job coaching as needed to ensure
successful employment relationships.

Since the job search process can be stressful, TAPS
provides a variety of free support and services for job seekers. Each
job seeker receives assistance from the start of the job search, with
primary focus on:
• Determining an appropriate field of work based
on interest and ability
• Marketing strengths through résumé
preparation and mock interviews
• Reinforcing job retention skills, including
punctuality, attendance, decision making and follow through
• Job coaching and assistance with the interview
process, as necessary
By working with a variety of community agencies and
business leaders, TAPS can provide job seekers with additional resources
to assist in the job search process. Assistance with transportation,
referrals for housing, and obtaining work-appropriate clothing are
available on a case-by-case basis to TAPS clients.
TAPS works with individuals regardless of education or
skill level. Job placements can include restaurant, retail, office,
medical and other professional fields. Job seekers work at their own
pace with the assistance of experienced TAPS staff. All services
provided by TAPS are free of charge.
With over ten years of experience in rehabilitation and
employment services, TAPS can be a valuable resource for you. For more
